Designing a survey that won't bore your customers is the art of getting real data without making your customers leave you halfway: short survey (under 2-3 minutes), clear questions, at the right time, and asking exactly what you're going to use. Long forms, rambling questions, sent at the wrong time → customers get bored, leave unfinished, and the data collected is distorted. Zenify recorded a 21% increase in conversion rate (approved) when businesses conducted surveys properly.

TL;DR
- Good survey form = short, clear, timely, easy to answer.
- Goal: complete in under 2-3 minutes.
- Ask what you will take action on — don't ask enough.
- Send at the right time (see Survey timing).
- Long forms make customers bored → distorted data.

Why do surveys bore customers?

Customers get bored when:

Too long: asking 10 questions while the customer only wants to answer 1-2 questions.

Ramble questions: ask about things the business will not use.

Confusing questions: terminology, long, vague sentences.

Sending at the wrong time: sending long surveys right when customers are busy.

No clear purpose: customers do not see "what is the purpose of asking".

Principles for designing coupons that are not boring

1. Ngắn — dưới 2-3 phút

Maximum 5-7 questions (periodic survey).

Quick survey after the transaction: 1-3 sentences is enough.

2. The question is clear and easy to answer

Each question has one idea — no "and".

Use a clearly labeled scale: "1 = very bad, 5 = very good".

Avoid internal jargon.

3. Ask what will be used

Before adding the question: "What is this answer for?"

Don't ask enough questions — each question must lead to an action.

4. Diverse sentence types

Type | Use when

Score (CSAT/NPS/CES) | Quantitative measurement

Select one/many | Subgroup

Level scale | Measuring feelings

Open reply | Get detailed reasons

5. Send at the right time

Right after the interaction is complete — guests still remember the experience.

Do not send when the customer is handling their work (see Survey timing).

Standard survey structure

1. [CSAT/NPS/CES Score] — main question.
2. [Open answer] "Why did you give this score?" — reason.
3. [Choose one] "What channel did you contact?" — grouping.
4. [Open] "Additional suggestions for the shop" — optional, not required.

Rule: the most important sentence comes first — the living room is left unfinished.

Avoid 4 common mistakes

Question is too long — customer abandons, data is distorted.

"Two in one" question — "What do you think about price and quality?" → don't know what to answer.

Unlabeled scale — customers don't know what 3 means.

Do not state the purpose — the customer does not see the reason for the answer.
