Single view of customer (SVC) is the ability to see all information about a customer through a single data source. Every interaction from chat, call, order, marketing is consolidated, duplicates are merged, and every department sees the same picture. 360 Profiles are just full data, while SVC is data architecture: ensure "one customer = one record", not 5 records spread across 5 engines. According to Zenify's consulting experience, most Vietnamese small and medium enterprises do not have real SVCs, they have a lot of data but the data is scattered (internal opinion).
TL;DR
- SVC = single data source per guest, no duplicates.
- 360 profiles is "full data"; SVC is "one record, every part as a whole".
- 90% of Vietnamese businesses lack data because data is fragmented between many tools.
- Consequences: wrong advice, customers have to repeat, misaligned segmentation.
- Construction: merge channels → merge duplicate records → one source for all parts.
What is single view of customer: vs. 360 profile
SVC and Profile 360 complement each other:
Criteria | Profile 360 | Single view of customers
Nature | Full guest data | "One guest = one record" architecture
Focus | Full 6 data layers | No duplication, all parts in general
Problem Solved | Missing information | Conflicting, fragmented data
Distinguishing example: customer "Nguyen Van A" calls sales (write phone number 1), text Zalo to customer service (write phone number 2). Good systems combined into 1; Discrete systems create 2 different records. SVC is this defragmentation mechanism.
Why do 90% of Vietnamese businesses lack SVCs?
Because businesses use many separate tools without connecting data between them. Fanpage uses its own app, Zalo uses its own app, orders on the store, calls on the switchboard. Each place a record, each place a "fact" about the same guest. Three main reasons:
Tool not connecting: Fanpage app cannot talk to the order software.
No common identifier: same customer, each system records in the same way (phone number, Zalo name, email).
No one is responsible for the data: no department "owns" the concept of a customer.
Consequence: sales sees that the customer has not bought yet, customer service sees that the customer has bought 5 times. Same person, two different stories.
Consequences of lack of SVC
SVC deficiency causes three direct harms:
Wrong advice and surprising customers: Customers are already VIPs but are treated like new customers.
Data loss when employees leave: knowledge about guests resides in the individual's head.
Segmentation and reporting bias: "new visitors" statistics are inflated because the same person appears in multiple records.
How to build single view of customer
Build SVC in 4 steps:
Collect interactions into one platform: chat, calls, orders into a single system.
Identification standardization: use phone number as primary key, merge duplicate records by phone number/name/email.
Connecting departments: sales, customer service, and marketing read and write one file together, no separate copies.
Clear delegation of authority: who sees which data; Update automatically, no manual input.
Reality: for SMBs, the most feasible way is to choose a CXM platform with built-in chat + CRM + orders instead of connecting multiple systems yourself.
